China Tower expressed, the applicant must have (tax) of LiFePO4 groups from January 1, 2018, to March 11, 2020 total not less than 50 million (only limited backup power classes, storage classes, The sales performance of power) does not include the sales performance of individual cells and must have the production capacity of LiFePO4 battery packs (including the independent production capacity of LiFePO4 cells).


Unlike China Mobile, China Tower does not set a maximum price limit for tenders.


Battery previously reported that China Tower has stopped purchasing lead-acid batteries since 2018 and has uniformly used LiFePO4 batteries as a backup power system for base stations. However, before China Tower, the main use of LiFePO4 battery recycling for decommissioning of vehicles was mainly used.


Data show that as of the end of 2018, China Tower has been used in the country's 31 provinces, municipalities, about 120,000 base stations in the battery echelon about 1.5GWh, replace lead-acid batteries for about 45,000 tons; 2019, China Tower base backup power new Increase the use of LiFePO4 batteries about 5GWh, replace lead-acid batteries about 150,000 tons.

On March 4, China Mobile announced that it plans to tender 1.95GWh of LiFePO4 battery for the communication field this year. Coupled with the China Tower's planned bidding of 2GWh, the two telecommunications giants will purchase close to 4GWh of LiFePO4 this year, and China Unicom, China Telecom, Huawei and other communications and equipment companies are expected to quickly keep up. It can be seen that the field of communication base stations is becoming a new important application scenario of LiFePO4 batteries.


The maturity and application of 5G technology have opened a new broad market for LiFePO4 batteries. Traditional communication base stations are mainly lead-acid batteries, but the batteries have a short service life, low performance, and high requirements for the equipment room environment and subsequent maintenance. Test data shows that the power consumption of 5G base stations is almost two to three times that of 4G base stations, and the excellent characteristics of LiFePO4 with high energy, long life, low cost, and high security are exactly in line with this demand.


"5G technology has a high frequency, and the attenuation during signal propagation is greater, so base stations need to be denser," said an industry insider. 5G uses ultra-high frequency signals, which are about 2 to 3 times higher than the existing 4G signal frequency. Demand for its base stations will also increase simultaneously. According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China in 2018, the total number of 4G base stations currently in China has reached 3.72 million, and the number of 5G base stations has been calculated based on more than double. In the future, the number of domestic base stations will exceed at least 8 million.


According to Battery, as the "big brother" of domestic communication base stations, as of the end of February this year, China Tower has built a total of 200,000 5G base stations. According to the goals of China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom, 60 will be opened by the end of this year. With 10,000 5G base stations, the market gap is still huge. The large-scale application of 5G technology will require the construction of a larger number of base stations. At the same time, the upgrade of existing 3G / 4G communication base stations will provide more space for the demand for LiFePO4. The 5G base station market, the demand for LiFePO4 batteries will be sustainable.


The cake is big, naturally attracting the attention of many companies involved in LiFePO4 batteries. In addition to traditional LiFePO4 battery companies involved in traditional backup power supplies, in recent years, some companies focusing on LiFePO4 batteries for vehicles have also started to join the communications Base station power market. For example, in November last year, the 5G new energy industrial base project with an annual capacity of 7GWh of Gotion High-tech was settled in Tangshan. It is reported that the project will mainly produce LiFePO4 batteries for 5G communication power. Besides, several giants involved in LiFePO4 batteries, such as BYD and EVE Energy, have also entered the market.


Optimistic about the prospects of LiFePO4 in energy storage, 5G, and other industries, LiFePO4 upstream material companies are also investing more. Recently, Dynanonic said that the company will invest an additional 1 billion yuan to build a "LiFePO4 cathode material production project." It is expected that competition in this market will be fierce in the future.
